In a state where leadership legacies often define political futures, the search for the next helmsman is already underway. Among the rising names is Hon. Adedeji Stanley Olajide, popularly known as Odidiomo—a grassroots politician with international credentials and growing influence within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Odidiomo, born into the Akuru family of Agbeni, Ibadan, is the son of Alhaji Lateef Olajide and Mrs. Funmilayo Olajide. Today, he represents Ibadan North-West/South-West Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives. Beyond politics, he is a trained bioinformatician with expertise in human genomics and over 25 years of professional experience with Fortune 50 companies in the United States. His career in technology spans high-performance computing, scalable systems, cloud migration, and cybersecurity—skills that shape his political philosophy around innovation-driven governance.
Back home, Odidiomo is also the CEO of Bentley Energy Nigeria Limited, an oil and gas firm with diverse business interests. His entrepreneurial success and ability to navigate both local and global economies are seen as assets in driving sustainable growth in Oyo State.
In the House of Representatives, where he chairs the Committee on ICT and Cybersecurity, Odidiomo has pushed for Nigeria’s digital expansion, stronger cybersecurity systems, and the integration of technology into governance. His constituency has benefited from infrastructure projects—boreholes, solar-powered streetlights, youth empowerment schemes, and education support initiatives. Notably, his digital literacy programs have trained over 600 youths, while his IT centres are grooming thousands in areas like artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and cloud computing.
His philanthropy also stands out: from purchasing JAMB forms for underprivileged students to donating ₦10 million to support PDP candidates in local government elections. These gestures, combined with his humility and accessibility, have earned him strong grassroots loyalty.
On the national stage, Odidiomo has represented Nigeria in international forums, including the U.S.–Nigeria Technology Dialogue in Washington, D.C. He also played a role in securing Nigeria’s hosting of Gitex, a global technology fair, and facilitated a $2.09 million grant to expand the nation’s fiber optic backbone by 90,000km.
Strengths and Challenges
Odidiomo’s greatest strength lies in his blend of international expertise, business leadership, and grassroots politics. He offers a unique perspective—bridging global best practices with local realities. However, his relative newness to Oyo’s entrenched political power blocs could be a challenge. Unlike long-established gladiators, his rise has been swift, raising questions about whether he can consolidate across rival factions.
The Road to 2027
For Odidiomo to emerge as Makinde’s successor, he must:
Align closely with Governor Makinde, positioning himself as the continuity candidate to sustain and expand the GSM legacy.
Broaden his grassroots reach beyond Ibadan into Oke-Ogun, Oyo, Ogbomoso, and Ibarapa.
Expand his policy agenda beyond technology to include agriculture, healthcare, infrastructure, job creation, and security.
Engage traditional and religious leaders, whose endorsements remain influential in Oyo politics.
Mobilize youths and women through structured town halls, social media, and empowerment programs.
Verdict
With his Ibadan roots, international exposure, and proven commitment to grassroots development, Hon. Adedeji Stanley Olajide “Odidiomo” has become one of the most credible contenders in the 2027 succession race. If he consolidates his political base, strengthens alliances, and builds bridges beyond Ibadan, he could emerge as a frontrunner for the PDP ticket.
Still, Oyo politics is famously unpredictable. Alliances, timing, and the ability to navigate rival ambitions will ultimately decide his fate. What is clear, however, is that Odidiomo has entered the conversation as a leading prospect for Oyo State’s post-Makinde future.
