Olubadan Coronation: Tinubu, Atiku, Obi, Others Expected in Ibadan

Olubadan Coronation: Tinubu, Atiku, Obi, Others Expected in Ibadan

Among those expected at the ceremony are President Bola Tinubu, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, and Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, alongside other political leaders across party lines. Sources confirmed that Obi will also pay a courtesy visit to the Olubadan on September 16, ahead of the grand event.

The coronation is equally attracting attention from Ladoja’s former colleagues in the Senate, including Senator Iyorchia Ayu, as well as first-class monarchs such as the Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Sulu Gambari. Notably, Ladoja’s early life has ties to Ilorin, where he was born in 1944 during one of his mother’s trading trips.

Meanwhile, the Ibadan Airport, which has been closed for upgrades since March, is on the verge of reopening. The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) recently completed its inspection, and Governor Seyi Makinde has indicated that flights may resume sooner than scheduled to accommodate visitors attending the coronation and other upcoming events in the state.

Governor Makinde, in a letter to the contractors, described the project as having reached a “major milestone,” noting that the new runway is ready for operations. He expressed confidence that local flights would recommence in time for the coronation, which he described as a special occasion to honour Oba Ladoja.

The event promises to be a landmark occasion, with Southwest governors, national political leaders, and traditional rulers from across Nigeria expected to converge on Ibadan to celebrate the former governor and senator, now ascending the throne as the Olubadan of Ibadanland.
