Nigeria @65: Tinubu’s Independence Day Speech — “We’re Racing Against Time”

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has urged Nigerians to unite behind his administration’s reforms, declaring that the nation is “racing against time” to rebuild its economy, strengthen security, and restore confidence in governance.

In his 65th Independence Day broadcast, Tinubu paid tribute to Nigeria’s founding fathers and mothers, reminding citizens of their sacrifices and vision for freedom.

The President defended bold economic reforms — including the removal of fuel subsidies and foreign exchange unification — as painful but necessary measures to reset Nigeria’s economy. He highlighted early signs of recovery: GDP growth of 4.23% in Q2, inflation easing to 20.12%, and reserves rising to $42 billion.

On social welfare, Tinubu noted that ₦330 billion had been distributed to about eight million vulnerable households to cushion the impact of reforms. He also pledged continued investment in security, infrastructure, and good governance.

Reiterating that democracy thrives only when citizens and leaders uphold responsibility, Tinubu called on Nigerians to embrace unity and resilience: “We are racing against time, and our only path forward is together.”

The President concluded with an appeal for patience and cooperation, assuring Nigerians that while challenges remain, his government is committed to steering the country toward renewal and progress.
