Makinde’s Commissioner Rebuts Muftau Gbadegesin: “I Am a Proud Son of Ibadanland”

Makinde’s Commissioner Rebuts Muftau Gbadegesin: “I Am a Proud Son of Ibadanland”

Prof. Sangodoyin, in a statement, stressed that he is a proud indigene of Ibadanland, born into the respected Sangodoyin family. His late father, High Chief L.A. Sangodoyin, was the Ekerin Olubadan of Ibadanland. According to him, his roots and commitment to the progress of Oyo State cannot be questioned.

The commissioner explained that before joining the present administration, he had built a distinguished career spanning more than three decades across Nigeria, Botswana, and the United Kingdom. He noted that his international exposure was an asset he chose to bring home, not evidence of detachment from his heritage.

Reacting to Gbadegesin’s suggestion that he was “plucked” from Botswana, Sangodoyin said such a claim was false and an insult to Ibadan indigenes who excel globally. He added that his service to the state is driven by purpose and dedication, not privilege.

On Governor Seyi Makinde’s appointment of Ms. Neo Tlhaselo as Special Adviser on International Trade and AfCFTA, the commissioner maintained that it was the governor’s prerogative to choose a competent team. He stressed that AfCFTA is a continental initiative that requires expertise in cross-border trade, and that the appointment should be seen as a strategic step to position Oyo State internationally.

Sangodoyin urged critics to avoid stirring public sentiment with half-truths and instead focus on how Oyo State can leverage such opportunities to attract investment, create jobs, and expand trade. He emphasized that governance in today’s world demands bold and innovative approaches.

“I welcome constructive criticism, but it must be based on facts and context,” he said. “Our collective goal should be to build a stronger Oyo State, not to divide ourselves with unfounded claims.”
