Political functionaries from all 33 Local Government Areas in Oyo State have formally called on Governor Seyi Makinde to run for President in 2027, citing his leadership record and governance performance across Oyo as strong evidence of his readiness for national office.
During a rally at the Agodi Secretariat, Ibadan, secretaries, chiefs of staff to LG chairmen, supervisory councillors, and special assistants came together to express solidarity with Governor Makinde’s administration. They said the governor’s achievements in state infrastructure, social welfare, and governance over the past six years have built confidence that he could replicate positive change at the national level.
Ayodeji Oladepo, Chairman of the Oyo State Supervisory Councillors’ Forum, said that the functionaries believe Makinde has demonstrated “transformative governance,” and that his leadership is needed at the very top to deliver the kind of change many Nigerians hope for.
The group assured their readiness to mobilise support for Makinde’s possible presidential bid, emphasizing that this call is not about party loyalty alone but about the greater good for Nigerians.
Deputy Governor Abdulraheem Bayo Lawal, who received the functionaries on behalf of Makinde, acknowledged their appeal. He remarked that they believe Makinde is eminently qualified, and affirmed that he will communicate their desire to the governor, who would respond to the call in due course.
