Stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party in Oke-Ogun zone of Oyo State have declared that the recent defection of Senator Hosea Ayoola Agboola (popularly known as “Halleluyah”) and a few associates will not weaken the party’s structure or electoral prospects in the zone.
At a meeting held by local government chairmen, party executives and former council officials from across Oke-Ogun, members reaffirmed their loyalty to Governor Seyi Makinde and the PDP, emphasising that the majority of party foot-soldiers remain intact and fully aligned with the party’s vision. The communiqué issued at the end of the meeting stressed that the defectors represented only a small fraction of party membership and had not contributed significantly to the success of the party in the 2023 elections.
Party leaders pointed to major developmental achievements in Oke-Ogun — such as upgrading of the Saki Polytechnic to offer HNDs, establishment of a campus of the regional university in Iseyin, relocation of the state agricultural development centre to Saki, and numerous road-projects — as proof that the people of the zone continue to benefit and thus remain supportive of the PDP.
The chairmen said they would intensify grassroots mobilisation, renew voter-registration efforts, and strengthen party structures in all local government areas to ensure that the PDP remains the party to beat in Oke-Ogun and beyond. They urged supporters not to be distracted by the defection, describing it as a “passing phase” and stressing that the party’s strength is rooted in its presence across the zone, not in individuals.
