Ward has denied all allegations, which include two counts of rape, two counts of assault by penetration, and one count of sexual assault, relating to an incident involving one woman in January 2023.
He appeared at Thames Magistrates’ Court in East London, confirming his name, address, and date of birth. He did not enter a plea and was granted conditional bail, with his next appearance scheduled for September 25 at Snaresbrook Crown Court, also in East London. Under the terms of his bail, he is prohibited from contacting the alleged victim.
In a statement issued in July, Ward maintained that he “denies the charges against me entirely” and emphasized his cooperation with police throughout their investigation.
Beyond Top Boy, Ward has received critical acclaim for other performances. He won the BAFTA Rising Star Award in 2020 and was nominated for Best Supporting Actor at the BAFTAs for his roles in the BBC drama series Small Axe (2021) and the 2022 film Empire of Light.
